Just thought I'd throw this out there (without charging $49.95 like some "experts" might), but here are a few quick pointers for how you might actively attain Lucid Dream sessions or even OBE (out of body experience) situations.
First off, if you've never had an OBE, and these tips actually work, remain calm and be willing to psychoanalyze the situation after you've had some time to think it over. Not everything is "a message from God", "angels and demons", or "extraterrestial communication", so you've got to be careful to balance betwixt taking all of this seriously, and having a little bit of fun with it too.
Secondly, an OBE event can be enlightening and rewarding, but at times it can also be very draining, unnverving and even frightning. In my experience, every "astral travel" has also coincided with bouts of sleep paralysis, ie: being "trapped" between the states of wakefulness and dream. It takes the body and mind time to adjust to such "voyages", and you might find yourself stuck between phases/vibratory levels of reality. This is a twilight period where seeming entities might appear to you, hidden in shadows, which are working of their own accord and may indeed express themselves as malignant or harmful.
Again, though it's hard to be in complete control at all times, especially if you're inexperienced in these matters, DO NOT FEAR. More than likely these are merely psychological manifestations, simple nightmarish imps & phantoms, though sometimes they might seem to be very real...

Focus your mind on where you would like to go. However, it's easier to start out in small steps than shooting for the moon on your first attempt. The majority of my OBE "travels" have been within close vicinity of where I'm sleeping. In fact, for me at least, the farther I travel from my body, the harder it is for me to keep going. I'm always pulled back in (possibly for good reason). My first OBE at the age of 15 took me to a location about 15 miles away. Most of the subsequent OBE's which have taken place since then have all been within a 100 foot radius, or a couple city blocks.
Be comfortable and feel safe. Now, here's the trick. What you want to do, when you're tired enough to sleep, take a 3 or 4 hour nap and set the alarm. Get up, go about your business for 3 or 4 hours. Then, still tired, take another nap. During the second session of sleep (it might take a few attempts to work, if it's going to work for you at all), you will notice changes in your dream pattern. Your brain is still in transition phases from being fully awake, to going in to deep REM sleep, and it's through this "activation" and "tricking the brain" that you might tap into a liminal state of consciousness and some very intense lucid dreams and OBEs.
Perhaps it will take several attempts, but most of all, KEEP AN OPEN MIND. Even if this is all psychological and there is nothing "supernatural" about this, the occurrences which follow can be extremely meaningful, and even life changing.
Relax, keep an open mind, don't fear... This, along with the suggestion above, could get you started on your way to mind altering dream adventures!

Likewise, these events can happen in both daytime and nighttime. I've had pleasant and bad experiences with both. One of my first OBE's was getting up out of my body (in broad daylight), walking through the house and out the door, and into the front yard and then the back yard. Very simple.
It was one of the most vivid and real dreams I've ever had (as most OBE's and Lucid Dreams are). My point is that these occurrences can take place in the dead of night or the middle of the day, but it's best to try to make your sleep environment as conducive as possible from the start.
Likewise, if you've got any experience with this please share them! But please, don't make stuff up. I've literally had hundreds of experiences with this, over the past 15 years, so it can be annoying when people tell you they went to Mars and walked in the pyramids and talked to Bigfoot or something....
Honesty and genuineness should be cornerstones of any psychic phenomenon or psychological evaluation.
