Loud Crash at 3am? It may be your exploding head

http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/MSNBC/Components/ArtAndPhoto-Fronts/HEALTH/Illustrations/Exploding_head.standard.jpg
Marie Raymond sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night, heart pounding, freaked out by the sound of her name being shouted loud and clear. Other times she’ll be awakened by the sound of a huge crash, as if someone has broken a window or knocked over a set of dishes.

“The sound is terrifying — super loud, like someone has broken in,” says Raymond, a 38-year-old arts administrator from Seattle. “But when I get up to look around, nothing’s amiss and everything’s quiet.” After dealing with it off and on for the last several months, Raymond believes she may have exploding head syndrome. She hasn’t seen a doctor about it, but has done some research online.

Another dream, thought I'd share...

I've had plenty of weird, vivid dreams worth sharing in recent weeks, but thought I'd post this one for the "journal". It's basically a continuation of a dream that I've had at least a half dozen times now, a very lucid dream where I realize that I'm sleeping. I'm in a night club type of setting, up high, like the 20th floor of a building, and there is bizarre music playing. It's not techno but very electronic and tone oriented melodies, soothing yet dark and brooding. Whale songs come to mind and frequencies from deep under-water.

Upon talking to various people at this "club", I begin to realize that everyone here knows they are a "dreamer" too, having a mutually shared dream experience in this building. It's a shared understanding that, in the waking world, we are "scouting" people to come with us to this dream dimension so we can plan and party, away from the peering eyes and ears of the "real world". We will knowingly TRY to get more people back to this dream facility when they go to sleep, so we can all have a central meeting point in the reality of the dream-scape.

The different levels of the building lead to different dimensional planes, different realities of dreamers and sleep states. Perhaps other planets and universes as well. We are thinking up new ways, in the WAKING WORLD, to try and promote our club and get people to join us in the shared dream. In other words, we're trying to recruit new members.

It might sound mundane or boring, but could be a good upcoming experiment. A "viral marketing campaign" to try and influence people to focus in on a particular dream facility where we all might share a mutual ESP type experience. I've always been fascinated by the possibility that the people you meet in your dreams, are actually other dreamers, suffering a partial amnesia, and perhaps wearing different masks than the faces and flesh of their real lives. I'll definitely keep giving it some further thought and consideration as I think there are some strange and potentially ground-breaking possibilities with this "research".

Dreams may have an important physiological function

According to Dr J. Allan Hobson, the major function of the (REM) sleep associated with dreams is physiological rather than psychological. During REM sleep the brain is activated and "warming its circuits" and is anticipating the sights, sounds and emotions of the waking state.

Dr Hobson said the idea explains a lot, and likened it to jogging. The body does not remember every step of a jog, but it knows it has exercised, and in the same way we do not remember many of our dreams, but our minds have been tuned for conscious awareness.

The Makura-gaeshi is a soul-stealing prankster

Makuragaeshi anatomical illustration from Shigeru Mizuki's Yokai Daizukai --
The Makura-gaeshi (”pillow-mover”) is a soul-stealing prankster known for moving pillows around while people sleep. The creature is invisible to adults and can only be seen by children. Anatomical features include an organ for storing souls stolen from children, another for converting the souls to energy and supplying it to the rest of the body, and a pouch containing magical sand that puts people to sleep when it gets in the eyes. In addition, the monster has two brains — one for devising pranks, and one for creating rainbow-colored light that it emits through its eyes.

Spirituality and Dreams 101

Do you remember what you dreamt last night? Had a recent doozy of a dream? Those memorable ones hold so many clues into our lives and the situations at hand. Dreams are like little analysts cloaked in symbolic language- sometimes more easily recognized, sometimes subliminal. Keeping a dream log for 3 years+ has been a wonderful journey. Some folks swear by a chocolate goodie, others by banana, still others by spicy foods, figs-either mission or calimyra to help bring on dreams. Dreams are the subjects of songs, poetry and scripture alike. Read the apocalyptic book of Revelations and you wonder what the heck the author ingested to have a dream/vision like that, or prophet Ezekiel and his vision of the dry bones? God communicates directly through dreams in many of the world’s religions. Of course, under the duress of persecution, torture and death one just might also have nightmares, and legend says a person’s hair can even go white.

The "Not Making This Up" Dept.

Two very strange, very vivid dreams over the past couple of days...

... First. I'm some kind of action hero in a movie. Interdimensional zombies are chasing me, with giant pulsating brains. The only way I can escape them is by going through a variety of mazes and mirrors, which transport me to new worlds and realities. I find that it's always very memorable and bizarre when you have a dream in which you encounter yourself in a mirror. Usually I'm timid regarding mirrors in dreams, but this time I was actually using them to warp from one "level" to the next in order to escape shadowy captors.

It was very trippy and topsy turvey. M.C. Escher / Dali type of dream...

Second dream, different night. Without too many details. I'm going crazy in the house I grew up in. Floating, drifting, anti-gravity insanity at 360 degrees. Nothing is real - I'm seeing hallucinations - everything is STARK yet somehow ABSTRACT. In one of them, Obama is amidst a group of 10's of thousands of people (Olympic Games setting), and behind him is a large screen which reads: "Crusade: Alien Christ", with pictures of various holographically projected planets in our solar system. More hallucinations ensue, which seemed based upon scientific methods of technological transmission. I eventually realize that the hallucinations are coming from the TELEVISION, sending out subconscious broadcast signals, recording our every move, putting us under mind control with trigger words and phrases that make us slaves. I must escape the transmission signal!

The digital TV convertor box is creating nightmares!?!

Conscious Sleep Project II

I already spoke about my modest one-man-band The Conscious Sleep Project -HERE- , but just gettin' the word out however I can that I've started two new Myspace pages dedicated to my tunes, and independent, local music generally from the state of Indiana.

http://www.myspace.com/crossroadresonances

http://www.myspace.com/conscioussleepproject

There's some cool stuff over there, really, so hope you'll check it out! These are like the 3rd and 4th Myspace pages I'm currently running, along with LiveJournal and Blogger accounts, and 4 different websites. I don't know if that makes me kinda proficient, or kinda... pathetic?!?!

Anyway, check it out, new updates over there, podcasts and such. Worth a look-see if you're at all interested in my little hub of creation.

Weekly BoT-Dreams...

Regular, random entries from the dream forum at: BOOK-OF-THOTH .

"I am beginning to suspect that in some dreams are real .

"How many people have had dreams that have felt real? Have had physical reminders of dreams like dreaming that you had an operation, and then woken up with the marks or pain exactly where the operation was? Or have had an illness, injury.. dreamed that you were treated for it and found that you were healed the next day?

"Or that you were in some sort of altercation.. dreamed you were fighting a battle or were in an accident and you wake up with nagging painful reminders the next day?

"Or that you dream of an event..or of people interacting with you on some level, that seems to have seemed to play out in this reality , maybe not in the same way, but the outcome is similar?"

BONUS ENTRY:
-The Dream Page of Lucretia's Heart-

"It's a little like an internal war. The Waking Mind decides it wants something-- say, to stop eating when not hungry. Yet, when our minds wander, we'll find ourselves almost on autopilot, heading for the fridge...! Then we hate ourselves as we stuff our face! Who needs that shit? But most of us have a few versions of this sort of thing going on all the time. Why do I always quail inside when a family member calls? Why do I freak out and scream at my romantic partner when they act bored? Why do I...?

"So I've come up with this system for labeling the aspects of ourselves in dreams. These dream characters almost always fall into one of several categories: Rays, Shadows, and Guides. Rays are created by things we hear growing up-- they are equivalent to a Superego, the programs begun by outside authority figures, including the almighty peer-group! Shadows are the result of those "rays" of false light-- they are the repressed aspects of the self, the Id if you will. The Guides are the wise and healthy aspects that seem to be connected to a Higher Self or Divine and true Light.

A couple quick tips for Lucid Dreaming or OBE'ish events

Just thought I'd throw this out there (without charging $49.95 like some "experts" might), but here are a few quick pointers for how you might actively attain Lucid Dream sessions or even OBE (out of body experience) situations.

First off, if you've never had an OBE, and these tips actually work, remain calm and be willing to psychoanalyze the situation after you've had some time to think it over. Not everything is "a message from God", "angels and demons", or "extraterrestial communication", so you've got to be careful to balance betwixt taking all of this seriously, and having a little bit of fun with it too.

Secondly, an OBE event can be enlightening and rewarding, but at times it can also be very draining, unnverving and even frightning. In my experience, every "astral travel" has also coincided with bouts of sleep paralysis, ie: being "trapped" between the states of wakefulness and dream. It takes the body and mind time to adjust to such "voyages", and you might find yourself stuck between phases/vibratory levels of reality. This is a twilight period where seeming entities might appear to you, hidden in shadows, which are working of their own accord and may indeed express themselves as malignant or harmful.

Again, though it's hard to be in complete control at all times, especially if you're inexperienced in these matters, DO NOT FEAR. More than likely these are merely psychological manifestations, simple nightmarish imps & phantoms, though sometimes they might seem to be very real...

Myths from the Vault: Entry 13

http://usera.imagecave.com/upsidebackwards/nightmare.jpg
-BACKGROUND: The Norwegian Mare is a shapeshifting demon, predominantly female, who haunts people while they sleep. Creeping like smoke, the Mare can sneak through keyholes or under doorways, as well as slither through locked windows or cracks in the floorboard. She can appear as beautiful or ugly, as a dwarf or a giant, but most commonly comes in the guise of a horse. Once in her victim’s bedroom, she mounts their chest and steals their breath, causing great heart pains, troubled breathing, and horrible dreams. In Germany she is known as the ‘Mahr’, in Danish, ‘Mare’, and in the Western world she took on the title of ‘Nightmare’. While the Norwegian version is considered one of the oldest versions of this lore, the Anglo Saxon and Old Norse ‘Mara’ probably predates her counterpart by a few centuries. In Germany, the demon directly associated with bad dreams is known as an ‘Alp’, a direct cousin to the popular ‘Elf’.

2 Things Worth Sharing...

The first is an original interview I conducted a couple years back with Kevin Todeschi, who is an author and head CEO of the Edgar Cayce A.R.E. Center. For those unfamiliar with Cayce's work, he was known as the "sleeping prophet" due to his supposed ability to enter a deep meditative trance state and recollect events from the past, present, and future. He's a key figure in holistic health and the budding 'New Age Movement' of the 20th Century.

-INTERVIEW WITH THE EDGAR CAYCE A.R.E. CENTER-

The second item worth mention is a short story I wrote several years back, a horror tale, entitled 'CREATURE FROM UNIVERSE 23' which deals primarily in dreams. Or more appropriately, nightmares.

Hope you'll check 'em out, if so, thanks!

And in case you haven't noticed, EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING on this new Dream Width account will be dedicated to dreams and sleep, one way or the other. Don't worry, I think things will get more "thought provoking" as we go along here.

'They Live' and Edgar Cayce

Ha, I've seen this movie at least a dozen times over the years (Carpenter's classic 'THEY LIVE'), but after re-watching again last lazy Sunday, I noticed that in the scene where Piper puts on the glasses for the first time and visits the book stand, he's prominently standing next to the book "Edgar Cayce on ESP".
